THE BAND CALLED GUANO

Spread it around

A "one stop" place to find out what's happened, what's happening now, and what's going to happen in Guano's world.

Guano the band, as a musical entity have been around since 2010. The main aim being to write, record, and eventually perform our own songs. This has been a journey, like anyone else's, with high and low points, but nonetheless, a very worthwhile one. The story isn't over, in fact, it often feels like we haven't really properly got started!!

The band was brought into being to be a vehicle for Simon's songs, which at the time (2010) were coming in thick and fast. The first album "Bat Out of Smell" was written and recorded on a very limited budget, and released via CD Baby, the songs on the debut album, can still be spotted in their live set. The follow-up album was recorded over a longer time period, and it was a very collaborative process. The main collaborators on "Can You Dig It?" were Simon and Ian Dennis. Simon (Sly) Dennis played the drums on both albums, and his brother Ian played bass, and sat in the producer's chair for 6 of the album's 12 songs.

The band's music is an eclectic mix of Soul, funk, blues, rock, and latin. Influences are therefore very diverse.

Anyone wishing to pinpoint those influences, may be forgiven for spotting shades of Little Feat, Santana, SRV, and Captain Beefheart. Guano never try to be a "sound-a-like" band, as there are a plethora of tribute bands out there already ticking that box. Any similarities, are of course, purely a respectful co-incidence.

23rd July 2017:

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our last bass player Paul Coulson. This was an unexpected turn of events, and we are still reeling from the shock of this. As a mark of respect to Paul and his family, we will of course be dedicating the upcoming album to his memory.
